Lesson Plan for Social Bookmarking with Studen

Hopefully with this lesson plan I will be able to tie together multiple things that I have learned from this class.  I hope to incorporate our wordpress site, biteslide (which I learned about through “Bella’s World” at  http://bellasworld.edublogs.org/), and diigo.  This lesson will allow me to incorporate technology within science which was a big goal of mine when I started this class.  I feel that this fits in really well with PSSA’s next week in the morning.  It is standard based learning and hopefully students will be really engaged doing so and more science will be included, which they always ask for! 

 

Title: Diigo in the Classroom

Essential Question: How can we use diigo to help support us in our research?

Activating Strategies: adapted word splash- websites related to project splashed across the board.  Students take 3 minutes to blog on our website what the benefit might be to sharing these sites on an online site rather than having them posted on the board. http://students2masters.wordpress.com/ (This was just started and will have content soon!)

Standards:

CC.1.4.6.V: Conduct short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.

CC.1.4.6.W: Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources; assess the credibility of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of other while avoiding plagiarism and providing basic bibliographic information for sources.

E06.C.1.2.1: Introduce a topic for the intended audience; organize ideas, concepts, and information using strategies such as definition, classification, compare/contrast, and cause/effect to support the writer’s purpose.

Task:

  1. Students will create a diigo account and will be bookmarking resources for an upcoming science project.
  2. Students will be utilizing resources compiled through the diigo account to create a biteslide related to the science topic.

 

Sharing/Summarizing: Students will be summarizing the benefit to using diigo on our website shown above and will share at least one way that they might be able to use it after 6th grade.

Assess: Students will be scored based on their addition to at least one website to diigo, as well as their ability to set up the account. (I must say that setting up the account and bookmarking took some time for me.)
